Sunrise and Sunset Birding Hikes
Time: 8:00 - 10:00 AM or 6:00-8:00 PM
Description: Early mornings and evenings are the perfect time to observe and listen to birdlife at Sundance. This hike invites you to discover the North Fork Canyon in the beautiful shades of sunrise and sunset while learning about the canyon's many bird species. For the sunrise hike, we'll greet you with a light breakfast before heading out to explore.

Sunset Hikes
Time: 5:00-7:00 PM
Description: Many of Sundance's native wild residents, such as mule deer, elk, and moose become especially active during the early evening. Join a Sundance naturalist to hike and explore some favorite spots in search of wildlife.

Night Owling

Description: Join local owl expert Merrill Webb at the Sundance Nature Center to learn about the fascinating owl species that inhabit the mountainside. Merrill will present a slide show and then we'll head outside to guide you in listening to their calls.

Bats!
Time: 7:00-9:00 PM
Description: Bats, bats, and more bats! Nighttime offers a perfect time to view and listen for these amazing and little-understood creatures. Come with your family and join biologists from the Great Basin Bat Cooperative as we explore the bats around Sundance. A slide show in the Nature Center will be followed by bat-viewing by the Sundance pond. Watch them swoop and listen as we help you hear their echolocation.

Redford Preserve Series - Wildflowers and Birding
Time: 9:00 AM-1:00 PM
Description: This series offers a unique opportunity to explore the Redford Family Preserve with respected local naturalists. In June, the program will feature the wildflowers and birds of Sundance. Join two of Utah 's most engaging naturalists, ornithologist, Ross Norvell and Adrienne Cachelin as we spend the morning identifying and enjoying spring wildflowers and avian species in the preserve. We'll provide a delicious boxed lunch.

Redford Preserve Series - Elk Viewing
Time: 3:00 - 6:30 PM
Description: This series offers a unique opportunity to explore the Redford Family Preserve with respected local naturalists. In early October, the series features the elk of Sundance. Fall brings a chance to witness elk in the rutting
season, a charged and amazing spectacle. Join renowned naturalist, writer, and photographer Bruce Thompson to watch the elk congregate in the preserve's meadows and listen to their bugling. Bruce will provide insightful interpretation of this magnificent species.

Moonlight Hikes
Time: 8:00-10:00 PM
Description: Enjoy the canyon as few people see it. As the sun sets and the moon rises, we'll explore the trails, meadows, and mountains of Sundance. A Sundance naturalist will take you to scenic Stewart's falls and meadow. These special hikes coincide with Summer's full moons. This hike is moderately difficult and is not recommended for children under 8 years of age.

Elk Viewing
Time: 4:00-6:00 PM
Description: The elk at Sundance become especially active during the Fall
mating season, or the rut. Fall evenings provide the best time to see this amazing behavior. Join us to watch the elk gather in the mountains meadows and listen as they bugle.

Fireside Chats
Time: 7:00-8:00 PM
Description: Come sit by the fire and get to know your canyon neighbors, human and non-human! Local Forest Service anthropologists and geologists will introduce you to the early peoples who inhabited the region and the canyon's unique geological features. On another evening, Hawkwatch International will present a slide show and a discussion of raptors in the canyon. A Hawkwatch representative will bring live birds for you to meet up close. This series is free to the public and Sundance guests.

Night Sky Party
Time: 8:00-10:00 PM
Description: In Mid-August, the Perseids Meteor Shower will be in full swing and the moon will be perfect for viewing. Join the Sundance Nature Center and Clark Planetarium educators for a presentation of night sky activity. A slide show in the Nature Center will be followed by telescope viewing. We'll give you tips for watching the meteor shower.
