Enjoy one of these rides and see the beauty of the Mad River Valley!
Road Bike Route 100 Through Granville Gulf
This 20-mile round-trip ride through a pristine natural area begins in Warren and follows Route 100 past beaver ponds and waterfalls as it winds through the rocky, heavily forested gorge where the Mad and White Rivers have their headwaters. Emerging from Granville Gulf in Granville, the route continues past farms to the village of Hancock. If you're looking for a longer ride continue south along the White River to Rochester.
Along the way:
Moss Glen Falls-viewing and picture taking
Warren Falls-swimming
Beaver ponds where you may find the occasional moose browsing
The Other Side Ride
For the most stunning views of the Mad River Valley and the main ridgeline of the Green Mountains, bike or hike the six easy miles from Waitsfield Common to East Warren. The road goes from good gravel road to rolling blacktop and travels through a landscape of dairy, horse and sheep farms, hayfields, barns and 200 year old farm houses with a constant backdrop of mountains and ski trails. The views will not disappoint at any time, but if you go at sunset, there's a good chance you'll be looking for property the next day.
Along the way:
The display gardens at Von Trapp's Greenhouse
Lambs and chickens in Von Trapp's barnyard
Cider at the Mountain Valley Farm
Post card views of the Round Barn Farm
Morgan horses at Wadham's Stable
For a true birds eye view of the valley, take the Roxbury Gap Road at East Warren 1 3/4 miles to the overlook.
Mountain Bike the Fayston Loop
This 13-mile loop winds its way over some of the highest public roads in the Mad River Valley. The route starts on the Airport Road north of Waitsfield and follows that road, the Carey-Strong Road (a section of which is not maintained, meaning that it can be muddy), the Center Fayston and North Fayston Roads before rejoining the Airport Road. The hard work is done on the first half of this scenic ride, which offers mountain and valley views.
Along the way:
Southerly views from Center Fayston Road
Waterfalls on Shepard Brook just off Center Fayston Road near the Shepard Brook Bridge
Ice cold spring water fountain on North Fayston Road
