Endless Opportunities

Kananaskis Country covers more than 1,544 square miles of stunning mountain and forest scenery. The area, located west of Calgary, includes Bow Valley, Bragg Creek and Peter Lougheed Provincial Parks, making Kananaskis Alberta's Mountain Playground.

This area provides endless opportunities for recreational activities. Camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and golf can all be enjoyed here. The area boasts two 18-hole golf courses and an abundance of wildlife. Visitors may spot bear, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, lynx, moose or mountain goats.

Golf Haven

The Kananaskis River Valley is home to numerous world-class 18 hole golf resorts, such as the Kananaskis Country Golf Course, a world-renowned course that's sure to challenge and entertain golfers of any ability. If you're really looking for a challenge, the Silver Tip Golf Course in Canmore is rated the most difficult course in Canada and third in the world! Silver Tip traverses 600 ft up the side of Lady MacDonald Mountain, offering a truly unique and challenging experience.

Climbing and Hiking Kananaskis

Canmore, in the middle of Kananaskis Country, has everything a rock climber could ever ask for, with at least 8 crags within a 20 minute drive, including both sport, gear, multi-pitch, and alpine routes. Canmore is famed for the Acephale area, home to the highest concentration of hard routes in the Rockies. The steeply overhanging pocketed limestone crag has over 50 routes, of which only a handful are below 5.12.

If you're looking for some moderate (under 5.10) crack climbing, Cowbell Crag is especially popular as a unique conglomerate bluff sticking out from the traditional limestone crags of the Rocky Mountains.

Kananaskis Country offers thousands of miles of distint hiking trails to explore. There's a Kananaskis trail for everyone, ranging in difficulty and length to match any hiker's skill level. The Karst Spring Hiking Trail is especially popular among families thanks to it's easy grade, and beautiful moss-covered boulder and driftwood fields. If you're looking for more of a challenge, the Buller Pass Hiking Trail travels over steep, rocky slopes, over mountain streams, by a scenic waterfall and numerous caves, to summit at a stunning alpine pass that affords breathtaking views of the Ribbon Creek Valley below.

Guided horseback and mountain biking tours are another perfect way to explore the incredible scenery of the area. Many of the popular hiking trails are also available to cyclists, with routes varying in technical difficulty to match almost anyone.

Water Adventures

White-water rafting and kayaking on the Kananaskis and Kicking Horse Rivers are popular past-times for the adrenaline junkies that visit the area, but due to the fast-flowing, glacier fed waters, highly-trained river guides are strongly recommended.

You can find a variety of sport fish, such as 6 kinds of Trout, Arctic Grayling, and Northern Dolly Varden, in the well-stocked lakes, rivers, and streams of Kananaskis Country.

Bragg Creek is known as an artists' community, producing works in a variety of mediums ranging from sculptry, pottery, paintings, weavings and more. Bragg Creek is also home to a number of diverse and eclectic dining options, such as fine Italian and Bavarian cuisine.
