Fairbanks
Alaska
Gateway to the Heart of Alaska
Fairbanks is a vibrant community, alive with activity, beauty, and a rich history. Located in the heart of interior Alaska, 370 miles north of Anchorage, about eight hours by car.
Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city with over 80,000 residents in the greater Fairbanks area. Located near the confluence of the Tanana and Chena Rivers, the town was originally founded in the early 1900's as a trading post serving stern-wheeler riverboats and early gold prospectors.
Most of the year Fairbanks enjoys sunny skies and well-defined seasons. Hot summer days usually reaching over 70 degrees, are balanced by cool winter nights. The Brooks Mountain Range protects the Interior from Arctic winds while the Alaska Range keeps the wet, humid coastal weather at bay. Enjoy the wonderful mix between water and mountains.
You'll want to take advantage of the towns cosmopolitan charms and fine hospitality in a frontier setting. Outfit your own outdoors adventure or let one of the many outfitters/guide services help! When you're ready for a more elegant and romantic experience, book a room in one of the many hotels or bed and breakfasts. Enjoy fine dining with special northern flair.
