Whistler
British Columbia
Whistler, only 75 miles north of Vancouver, is located in the picturesque Coast Mountains. A drive on the scenic Sky Highway, a two hour trip between Vancouver and Whistler, offers some amazing sightseeing. From canyons to mountains, from sea to sky, the beauty of this region is unsurpassed. It's easy to see why this is part of B.C.'s Coast Mountain Circle Tour scenic highway drive. This scenic wonderland is host to an abundance of recreational and cultural activities. If it's out there, it's at Whistler. Golfer's Delight Whistler is truly a golfer's paradise with four world-class golf courses: the Whistler Golf Club, designed by Arnold Palmer; the Chateau Whistler Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.; the Nicklaus Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus; and the Big Sky Golf and Country Club, designed by Robert Cupp. Each of these courses offers unique challenges and a spectacular setting. Many champion tournaments are held here on the perfectly manicured emerald-green fairways. Mountain Biking If you love to ride, be sure to check out Whistler's Mountain Bike Park. The park is open daily from 10am to 5pm and features kilometers of lift-serviced, gravity fed, adrenaline-fueled trails. The self-guided terrain park has a wide variety of parks and trails, and is open to all ability levels. Ski in July If you didn't get enough skiing this winter, you've come to the right place. Whistler has summer glacier skiing and snowboarding from mid-June to early August on Blackcomb Mountain. The ski lifts also take hikers and mountain bikers up top to trek down one of the many alpine trails. Numerous other routes ranging from hair-raising descents to quiet forest paths can be found throughout the area. Guided mountaineering and rock climbing trips are available as well. The five lakes in the area offer a variety of water sports, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking and wakeboarding. Local lakes and river also have white water rafting and kayaking. Fishing is a popular pastime here as well. Besides the obvious fishing holes, guided tours to hidden alpine lakes and streams will please the most adventurous fishing enthusiast. Entertainment Everywhere In the summer, musicians, comedians and magicians stroll the streets of this alpine village performing for passersby. The bistros, sidewalk cafes, unique boutiques and galleries give Whistler a special atmosphere that many find hard to resist.  |
