Columbia Valley
British Columbia
Valley of a Thousand Peaks
The beautiful Columbia Valley, known for it's stunning scenery, world-class golf, and outdoor adventure, is tucked in-between the Rocky Mountains and the Purcell Mountain Range in British Columbia's East Kootenays.
Relaxing Hot Springs
Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, offering fine dining and spa treatments, is home to Canada's largest outdoor mineral hot springs and located right next to the Columbia River. Several 18-hole golf courses can be found just steps away from Fairmont where a calming soak in the hot pools is the perfect way to wind down after a day on the green.
Outdoor Activities
The beauty of the region easily lends itself to an array of recreational activities. Hikers will find excursions to suit all tastes. Kootenay National Park is only 20 miles to the north and White Swan Provincial Park only 20 miles to the south. Kootenay boasts over 200 km of trails, offering hikes of varied distance and difficulty. Both parks offer camping, hiking and fishing opportunities. Hike the Purcell Mountains to the Lake of the Hanging Glacier to experience a diverse trail with stunning views of waterfalls, alpine meadows, and the monolithic glacier.
A variety of water sports, including fishing, boating and rafting can be found throughout the valley. Windemere Lake is especially popular for windsurfing, fishing, boardsailing, hang-gliding, and swimming. The scenic public beach, with stunning views of the Rocky Mountain Trench, tops off a perfect summer outing.
The Columbia River is world-famous for it's action packed white-water rafting, kayaking, and renowned rainbow and west slope cutthroat trout. Fishing and still water canoeing/kayaking is also available on the numerous lakes that the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers feed into.
