Spectacular and Diverse Landscapes
A combination of spectacular scenery and a variety of landscapes ranging from semi-arid grasslands to moist temperate rainforests make Vernon the perfect destination for a host of activities.
Halfway between Vancouver and Calgary, the area has an array of trails for hiking and biking. In town or out, there are plenty to chose from. The "Commonage" trail takes hikers along the Old Mission Road through one of Canada's most important raptor habitats. Eagles, hawks and owls swoop down from the cliff sides over fields looking for prey. Bikers can find trails ranging from beginner to expert, and even guided tours.
If climbing those grueling hills isn't your thing, the Cornet Express at Silverstar Mountain Resort will give the avid mountain biker access to 1,600 vertical feet of fantastic trails.
Water sports abound here, with Seadoo, boat, water-ski, inner tube and wakeboard rentals. The area is home to British Columbia's first underwater dive park, Innerspace Dive and Kayak, which offers freshwater scuba diving as well as numerous other activities. This region's many streams and lakes offer fishing, and the 'trophy' rainbow trout are sure to please any angler.
Golfers will find the area's four courses, Predator Ridge, Vernon Golf & Country Club, Spallumcheen and Hillview Golf, offer challenges for all levels.
Horseback riding, in-line skating, bird watching, camping, chairlift rides and Hummer tours are also available.
