Spectacular Scenery

Located on the shores of Upper Arrow Lake, Nakusp was named for an Indian word meaning "safe, closed in harbor."

The town itself is a charming little haven for boat lovers, hosting a quaint marina and boat launch. Nakusp's lakeshore front boasts a beautiful waterfront walkway consisting of gardens, grassy areas, a picnic area, a gazebo, and plenty of comfortable benches to enjoy the view from.

Outdoor Paradise

The Nakusp valley is also home to the stunning slopes of the Selkirk Mountains. Hike or bike through the valley and witness an astounding array of wildflowers, such as the glacier lily, or catch a glimpse of mountain caribou or maybe even a grizzly bear.

Popular trails such as Kuskanax Creek Trail, Kimbol Lake Trail, and Cedar Grove Trail wind among scenic alpine meadows, lakes, and streams; offering something for all hikers.

A variety of water activities are also available. The valley offers over 100 miles of flatwater canoeing and kayaking with sandy beaches, waterfalls and wildlife sightings. If you want to kick it up a notch, the Kuskanax Creek is home to thrilling whitewater adventures for kayakers and rafters alike.

The bottom line is that Nakusp's spectacular scenery is the perfect setting for any activity.

Natural Relaxation

The area surrounding Nakusp is home to many natural hot springs, but the excellent facilities and wonderful setting of the Nakusp Hot Springs attracts thousands of visitors yearly. Relaxation is easy in Nakusp with the hot springs only 1.9 miles to the north on Highway 23. An outdoor cedar structure houses mineral baths that range in temperature form 102 F to 111 F.
