The Perfect Destination

Wrightwood, located in the Swarthout Valley, has a rich history dating back to 1776. That's when Spanish padres came across Serrano Indians gathering food here.

Many people homesteaded the area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Two of these were brothers Sumner and Buford Wright. The Wrights eventually owned two-thirds of the valley --therefore the name Wrightwood.

Outdoor Opportunities

Here at the East end of the San Gabriel Mountains and only 90 minutes from Los Angeles, Wrightwood is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. At 6,000 feet and with no traffic lights, the clear crisp skies, majestic mountains and lush forests offer a wide variety of recreational activities. And with the sun shinning more than 360 days a year, the weather is always inviting.

The Pacific Crest Trail passes only a few miles away and affords hikers 2,500 miles of terrain. Numerous other trails can be found here as well. They range from desert to mountain terrain and offer a variety of challenges for all abilities.

Fishing enthusiasts can cast their lines in any number of lakes and streams. Jackson Lake is abundantly stocked with trout and Silverwood Lake offers water-skiing as well as sport fishing.

There are at least nine campgrounds and 15 organizational camps in the area for those wishing to spend all their time enjoying the great outdoors.

Entertainment

Summertime events add to the activities of this quaint mountain town. Mountaineer Days, the Wrightwood Mountain Classic Car Show and the 100 Mile Angeles Crest Run are just a sampling of what Wrightwood has to offer warm weather visitors.

Shoppers will find a variety of unique shops and galleries with local artisans work.
