Colorado
History and Beauty
Crested Butte, located on the West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway, shows off Colorado's scenic beauty and provides a look into its history.
Incorporated in 1880, the town served as a supply center for the outlying mining camps until the 1890s. In 1974, the entire town was designated as a national historic district. A walking tour describes the town's historic buildings.
Recreation
Named "The Wildflower Capital of Colorado," Crested Butte is known for its beauty, and there is no lack of outdoor activities there. Numerous trails throughout the area provide countless hours of hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding.
Panoramic views show off the Elk Mountains, the Ruby Range, the West Elks and the Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness. Jeep tours of the region are available as well.
Small lakes in the area afford excellent fishing opportunities as do nearby streams. If you're looking to find a secret fishing spot, this is where to look. Kayaking and inflatable kayak trips are located nearby and furnish visitors with a unique view of the area.
Food and Fun
Shops and galleries line the streets and there is no lack of choices when it comes to dining. Quaint bed and breakfasts, along with traditional lodging, offer selections to suit most anyone's tastes.
