Rafting and Recreation
One of the biggest summer attractions in the area is rafting on the Arkansas River. They say more rafters come to the Arkansas than any other river in America. Kayaking is popular as well, and several rafting companies are located in the area, offering a variety of trips.
Salida and the surrounding area provide many fishing opportunities. The Arkansas River, along with quiet mountain streams, make for endless hours of tireless fishing.
The region is perfect for mountain biking and hiking. The numerous trails in the area range in difficulty from easy to challenging.
One of the area's premier rides is Monarch Crest Trail. It starts at the top of Monarch Pass, west of Salida, and has 40 miles of single-track trail. While up on Monarch Pass you may want to check out the scenic tram for a bird's eye view of the incredible scenery.
Horseback riding, four-wheeling and golfing also are available during the summer months.

Walking tours are available of Salida's historic downtown and museums.
Quaint shops and galleries, summer concert series, and a wide variety of dining options give this town a unique flavor.
