Leadville
Colorado
A Glimpse of Days Gone By
Leadville, just 103 miles from Denver, has a rich mining history. Its well-preserved mining district and Victorian architecture give visitors a glimpse of days gone by. Leadville was the richest of the silver mining boomtowns.
Incorporated in 1878, the town boasts a National Historic Landmark District. Most of the buildings lining the main street date back to the 1870s. Leadville is the highest incorporated city in North America and has a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities.
Recreation
Numerous four-wheel drive roads fill the area, as well as trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Whatever you choose, Mt. Elbert, Colorado's highest peak, is a breath-taking accompaniment in the background.
Surrounded on all sides by 14,000 foot peaks, the area's streams and lakes afford themselves to a peaceful day of great fishing and unbeatable scenery.
Antique shops, coffee shops, gift shops and a historic hotel add to the charm of this historic mining town.
