New Hartford
Connecticut
Quaint Towns and Quiet Roads
New Hartford, located in the northwest corner of Connecticut, was first settled in 1733 and incorporated in 1738. New Hartford has been an industrial town since the 1700s and boasts the invention of the sewing machine in 1845.
Barkhamsted Reservoir and West Hill Pond are both close by and offer a variety of recreational opportunities. In fact, some of the best trout fishing in Connecticut can be found at West Hill Pond, along with a town beach and picnic area. The Farmington River also provides excellent trout fishing.
Nepaug State Forest to the south and American Legion and Peoples state forests to the north provide an abundance of recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping and fishing.
Bicyclists will find the county has countless back roads and quaint towns to explore. Litchfield County is known for its biking and is recommended several times by Steve Lyons in hisbook, "The Bicyclist's Guide to the Southern Berkshires."
