Sandpoint
Idaho
A Premier Destination

Sandpoint is located on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, the state's largest lake. This fresh water lake has more than 100 miles of shoreline and reaches depths of 1,150 feet. And with the Selkirk and Cabinet mountain ranges forming a spectacular backdrop, the area is a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Formed by glaciers, the lake's rugged cliffs, hidden caves, islands and deep waters make it a recreational paradise. Hike around the lake or relax on a sandy beach and look out at the mountains. Sailing, boating, swimming, wind surfing and water-skiing are all popular here -- as is fishing. Lake Pend Oreille's waters contain 14 different kinds of game fish. It is stocked with kamloop trout, and if you're up for a challenge, try to beat the 37-pound world-record kamloop that was caught here.

Outdoor Opportunities

The area offers countless opportunities for outdoor activity. Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, camping and canoeing can all be found. The city is constructing an extensive trail system for hiking and mountain biking.

Just 11 miles from Sandpoint, Schweitzer Mountain Resort offers loads of adventure. The chairlift will take you to the top to Schweitzer Peak. Spectacular views, luscious wildflowers and numerous trails await. The resort encompasses 2,300 acres of terrain.

Hidden Lakes Golf Resort is said to be one of the Pacific Northwest's most scenic and challenging courses. The Pack Riverwinds in and out among the greens and fairways, and wildlife viewing is a popular hobby. Get glimpses of elk, deer, bald eagles and osprey.

Arts and Entertainment

Summertime events light up the city. The Festival at Sandpoint (a world-class musical event), the Lake to Forest Triathalon and Timberfest are just a taste of what visitors have to look forward to.

Culture in Sandpoint extends beyond the norm. It is Idaho's largest art community. The multitude of artists, actors, musicians and shows create an exciting atmosphere. The Panida Theater, built in 1927, puts on a variety of stage and musical performances.

Shoppers won't want to miss Coldwater Creek on the Cedar Street Bridge, the first marketplace on a bridge. This unique shopping experience spans 350 feet of water and contains a mix of galleries, shops and restaurants.
