Lawrenceburg is located along the Ohio River, just across the border from Cincinnati. Its position affords wonderfully scenic views of the river.

The town was founded in 1803 by Capt. Samuel Vance. With the beginning of steamboat shipping came the development of the city's famous Gamblers' Row. This part of town was well-known from New Orleans to Pittsburgh.

Lawrenceburg also had the honor of having the state's first "skyscraper" built in 1819, which was an amazing three stories tall.

Outdoor Fun

A variety of recreational opportunities exist in this scenic river valley. Hike, bicycle or drive to explore these breathtaking hills and valleys. Versailles State Park is only a short drive to the west and offers camping and hiking.

Golfers will find a number of courses in the area, including two in Lawrenceburg. The lush rolling hills of southern Indiana provide the perfect environment for this time-honored sport.

The Sugar Ridge Golf Club has an 18-hole championship course designed by Brian Huntley of the Arthur Hills Design group. The Grand Oak Golf Club offers an 18-hole, par 71 championship course. Both courses provide challenges for golfers of all skill levels along with fantastic scenery.

Area Attractions

Lawrenceburg is home to the world's largest riverboat casino. The Argosy Casino covers all three decks of the boat and includes 1,734 slot and video poker machines and 88 table games.

Step back in time at the Dearborn County Historical Society Museum. This region was one of the areas of earliest settlement in the state and exhibits depict its history. Call for an appointment. Also, visit the historical society's Pioneer Village.

Summertime brings a variety of events to the area, including the 4-H and Community Fair and the River Valley Regional Juried Art Show.
