Numerous Lakes and Parks
North central Massachusetts has numerous lakes and parks that offer a variety of outdoor activities. Wachusett Mountain, Wachusett Reservoir, Leominster State Forest and Gardner Heritage State Park are just a few of the recreation areas in this region.
The Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary near Princeton encompasses 1,100 acres of diverse landscapes ranging from rugged foothills to serene pastures. More than 100 species of nesting birds have protected homes in these meadows. It's common to see river otters, wood ducks and herons in the many farm ponds.
Eleven miles of hiking trails explore this sanctuary. In a short distance one can see a 20-acre beaver pond, a glacial boulder and the Crocker Maple, a large North American sugar maple.
