Carrabassett River Valley
Maine
A Picturesque Mountain Region
Kingfield is located in the Carrabassett River Valley and surrounded by mountains. This picturesque area is perfect for a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, bicycling, fishing, camping and sightseeing.
Sugarloaf/USA resort, a short drive up the valley, has year-round recreation. Numerous trails crisscross the area for hikers to explore the great beauty of this region. Golfers will find an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. This course is as challenging as it is scenic.
A visit to the Stanley Museum gives a look at the artistic as well as automotive contributions of the Stanley family and of 19th-century life in rural Maine. The family is best known for the Stanley Steamer automobile manufactured by the twins F.E. and F.O. Stanley. Some of the steam-powered cars are on display, including ones from 1903, 1905, 1910 and 1916. Various art works by the family also are on display, including photographs by Chansonetta Stanley and handmade violins.
Events such as Kingfield Festival Days, the Sugarloaf Chamber of Commerce Duck Race and the Kingfield Annual 10K Road Race light up the summer months and entertain locals and visitors alike.
