Camden
Maine
On the Beautiful Maine Coast
Camden is located on Maine's central coast and is a favorite stop for private yachts cruising Penobscot Bay. The spectacular Camden Hills rise almost 1,400 feet above the harbor creating a cozy feel for the town nestled below them. The area is popular year-round for recreational activities, including sailing, kayaking and canoeing.
Camden Hills State Park is just north of town and encompasses 5,000 acres. The park's varied terrain ranges from the ocean shoreline to the 900-foot summit of Mount Battie. Both hikers and drivers can reach the top. Trails, as well as a paved road, go all the way to the summit. The views are unforgettable. Take in a panorama that includes Penobscot Bay, several islands, nearby towns and
the endless rolling countryside.
Just to the south, the quaint village of Rockport is a popular Mecca for artists and musicians. The town's cultural attractions include gallery exhibitions, concerts in the historic Rockport Opera House and the acclaimed Maine Photographic Workshops.
About six miles down the coast is Rockland, the self-proclaimed lobster capital of the world. This commercial center for Knox County is also a windjammer's paradise, serving as homeport to the country's largest fleet of passenger schooners.
There are a number of festivals and events that light up the summer months. The region offers a string of art shows, church fairs, folk festivals, antique shows, lobster festivals and schooner races throughout the season.
