Prime Fish Habitat

Cadillac was named for Detroit's founder, Antoine de la MotheCadillac. The town began in 1871 as a lumber camp. Here at the edge of the Manistee National Forest, Cadillac opens the door to a wide range of recreational activities.

Hikers and mountain bikers will find a wide variety of trails in the area ranging in length and difficulty. Some popular destinations include the Mackenzie Trail near Caberfae Peaks(this network of loops is rated as an "easy" ride), the North Country Trail near Udell Hills in Wellston (26 miles of challenging single track) and the Cadillac Pathway (10 miles of single track with a few tough hills).

Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell both harbor an abundance of fish just waiting to be plucked from the water. These two popular fishing lakes are connected by a canal left over from the logging era. Combined, these waters offer fishing enthusiasts more than 3,700 acres of prime fish habitat, with more than half of that water being 15 feet deep or less. Walleye, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, perch and large and small mouth basscan all be found lurking in the lush patches of aquatic weeds.

Golfers can try their skills at any of the scenic courses in thearea. McGuire's Resort takes golfers through pine forests andacross glacier-sculpted hills for a challenging 27 holes covering two courses. Other courses in the area include Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort, the Cadillac Country Club, Briar Downs and the Wedgewood Golf Course.

History and Entertainment

A visit to the Wexford County Historical Museum gives visitors alook at the region's past. The building was originally built as the Cadillac Library and houses exhibits that include a general store, post office items from the lumbering era, early fire fighting equipment and railroad memorabilia.

Several events draw visitors to the area during the summer months. The Mesick Mushroom Festival, the Marion Fair, the Cruise Cadillac Car Show and the Harrietta Ethnic Festival are just a sampling of the happenings this region has to offer.
