Lake Superior and Superior National Forest at Your Doorstep
Lutsen, located in the northeast corner of Minnesota, is a resort town on Lake Superior. The town also is within the boundaries of the Superior National Forest.
This prime location with these two great natural resources makes Lutsen the perfect destination for a host of recreational endeavors. Sea kayaking, canoeing and fly fishing are just a few of the numerous activities that can be found here.
Superior National Forest encompasses more than two million acres of land laced with lakes, rivers and streams. A variety of activities can be enjoyed, including hiking, camping, boating, bird watching and canoeing.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area runs along the Canadian border, adjacent to Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park. Travel permits are required for the Boundary Waters area.
The national forest also is a great place to see some of the area's abundant wildlife. A variety of animals reside here, including moose, gray wolves, deer, grouse, bear, woodcocks and the state bird, the common loon.
