A Recreational Paradise
Bartlett is surrounded by mountains and the White National Forest, making it a recreational paradise. Mount Parker, Mount Carrigan and Bear Mountain are all nearby.
The land here was originally given to several men for their service during the French and Indian War. In 1790 the village of Bartlett was incorporated. The area is known for its covered bridges and one can be seen about four miles east of Bartlett Village on Route 302. The bridge was built in 1851 and spans 167 feet.
Outdoor Opportunities
A scenic route to the Kancamagus Highway affords breathtaking scenery as does any of the routes into or out of Bartlett. Endless trails await hikers and mountain bikers in this beautiful forested region. The road leading from Bartlett to North Conway, U.S. Highway 302, is biker friendly with paved shoulders that are four feet or wider.
The Attitash Ski Area offers summer visitors a chance to ride down its two alpine slides - each three-quarters of a mile long. The resort also has three waterslides, a children's play pool, pony rides, chairlift rides and a driving range. Hikers and mountain bikers will find miles of trails here as well.
Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck in the Saco River or Big and Little Sawyer ponds. The Saco is known for trout fishing and is stocked with brook, brown and rainbow. And the ponds are said to be excellent for brookies.
