Charm and Beauty

North Conway, located on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest, is the commercial center for Mount Washington Valley.

In the 1800s, artist Benjamin Champney painted the spectacular view of Mount Washington from downtown. He and other artists painted the area and helped to make it well-known for its charm and beauty.

The valley has 1,200 miles of hiking trails, 700 miles of mountain biking trails, 100 holes of golf, more than 100 miles of rivers and streams and the 780,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. All of this makes for an abundance of recreational activities, including, fishing, swimming and canoeing or rafting on the Saco River.

Endless Trails

Hikers can find all types of terrain in the endless network of trails here. Trails exist to suit all levels of skill and endurance. Whether it's a short stroll along a rolling stream or a strenuous all-day trek into the mountains, hikers can experience nature at its finest.

Bicyclers will enjoy the hundreds of miles of mountain biking trails. Whether you're looking for on or off road riding, this is the place. Everything ranging from gentle glides to technical climbs can be found here. The road leading in and out of North Conway has a bike route with four-foot or wider paved shoulders.

Golfers can enjoy teeing off at the North Conway Country Club. The club, established in 1895, includes an 18-hole course along the Saco River. The views are as incredible as the challenges this course has to offer.

Nearby Echo Lake State Park encompasses 396 acres of terrain. Breathtaking views of the White Mountains and the Saco River Valley can be found near the top of Cathedral Ledge. The park offers swimming, hiking, climbing and picnicking.

The Conway Scenic Railroad takes visitors through time and across the countryside. Depart from the historic North Conway Station, built in 1874, and ride on track laid in the 1870s. The train itself is pulled by a restored steam or early diesel locomotive.

Arts and Entertainment

For those interested in the arts, Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company has a variety of performances.

A number of seasonal events promise to entertain visitors as well. The Arts Jubilee, a performing and visual arts celebration, the White Mountain Jazz and Blues Festival and the World Championship Mud Bowl football tournament are just a sampling of what Mount Washington Valley has to offer.

The variety of shopping will please even the most discriminating tastes. Unique shops and factory outlet stores here provide tax-free shopping opportunities.
