Reno
Nevada
"The Biggest Little City"
Known as "The Biggest Little City in the World," Reno, with about 130,000 people, offers the same neon lights and excitement as Las Vegas.
In addition to the casinos, Reno has a sunny, dry climate that attracts summer and winter sports enthusiasts. Facilities are available for boating, swimming, biking, snowmobiling, tennis, hiking and white water rafting.
The area offers many recreational opportunities. Just 36 miles north of the city, scenic Pyramid Lake is surrounded by red and brown sandstone mountains, and it is considered one of the best recreation areas in the state. Unique fishing opportunities are available, and clues are remaining of the area's prehistoric history.
But of course, it wouldn't be Nevada without some gambling. The Silver Legacy Resort Casino mints coins before your eyes, and the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino has free circus acts.
Arts and Culture
Amidst the casinos, visitors can find plenty of cultural endeavors. The Nevada Museum of Art features work by regional, local and international artists. And the National Automobile Museum has more than 200 antique, vintage and special interest cars.
On the University of Nevada at Reno campus, the Fleischmann Planetarium presents star shows and celestial programs. Also on campus, the Church Fine Arts Building has many exhibits and theatrical productions.
The Wilbur D. May Center also features many exhibits, along with an adjacent arboretum, a children's park, petting zoo, stamp mill and pony rides.
