Living Glaciers on a Spectacular Peak
Mt. Hood is located in Mt. Hood National Forest. Its namesake peak dominates the horizon reaching 11,239 feet into the sky.
There are several living glaciers that reach near timberline on all sides of this majestic mountain. And more than 4,000 miles of streams and 160 lakes call Mt. Hood National Forest home.
Trails and More
Hikers and mountain bikers will enjoy the more than 1,000 miles of trails this area has to offer. There are many day hikes around Mt. Hood on numerous trails ranging from easy to strenuous. Breathtaking views of forests, streams and waterfalls can be seen.
Take the chairlift to the top of the mountain and explore the 40 some miles of trails or perhaps bike around Mt. Hood on Timberline Trail. More than 40 miles long and ranging 9,000 feet in altitude, this U.S. Forest Service trail is a spectacular ride.
For added excitement visit the Summer Action Park at Mt. Hood Skibowl Resort. The park includes more than 20 electrifying rides and exciting activities. Some of the favorites are the half-mile long dual alpine slide, the free-fall twin bungee tower, the mountain bike park and the mini golf.
The region also provides opportunities for climbing, rafting and horseback riding, and there are dozens of places to camp.
Scenic drives give visitors a spectacular view of the region's natural beauty. The Mt. Hood loop and Clackamas River Highway offer breathtaking scenery.
