A Recreational Paradise

The Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania have been a popular vacation destination for a long time. Easily reachable from big cities like New York and Philadelphia, these 2,400 square miles of recreational paradise offers endless opportunities.

Stretching over four counties, Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne, the Pocono region encompasses a wide range of terrain, including woodlands, lakes, ponds, rivers and wildflower covered mountains.

Explore the Outdoors

White water rafting is a great way to see this picturesque region. Ride on the Lehigh River. This well-known waterway passes national historic sites, wildlife and some spectacular scenery. The Lehigh also offers variety ranging from mild waters to class II rapids.

Mountain bikers will find an incredible variety of trails and back roads. This area is a Mecca for bikers and has dozens of trails ranging from easy to extreme. Lehigh Gorge State Park, Mauch Chunk Park and the Delaware & Lehigh Canal National Heritage Corridor combine to offer endless riding opportunities. Explore Lehigh Gorge. Ride mostly downhill on a former railroad bed along the Lehigh River. This 25-mile ride affords fantastic scenery, including waterfalls and rock formations.

Golfers can test their skills on more than 30 golf courses in the area. These scenic fairways offer unique challenges to golfers of all skill levels.

Many opportunities exist for water sports as well in the region, especially on Lake Wallenpaupac, the third largest lake in the state. Swimming, canoeing, boating and water-skiing can all be enjoyed in the area. Fishing is popular too, with lakes and streams being stocked to ensure good luck. Trout fishing is especially popular.

Delaware State Forest and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area offer countless recreational opportunities of their own. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area encompasses 70,000 acres and more than 200 miles of scenic roads. The area offers camping, hiking and horseback riding.
