Historic Beauty

Scranton is located in Lackawanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania. The area is a wonderful mix of history, culture and recreation.

The Steamtown National Historic Site is a $70 million steam-era railroad complex and museum. The 40-acre site is located at the old Delaware, Lackawanna and Western rail yards, which was one of the earliest rail lines in the region. The complex includes a working roundhouse, locomotive shop, railway post office car, steam locomotives and more.

Many other historic and informative places can be found in the Scranton area. The Anthracite Museum shows visitors how it all began for the European settlers in the region with artifacts and other displays.
The Everhart Museum is a center of arts and natural history. It displays Native American, American Folk, Oriental and primitive artwork and other fine arts.

Or, watch how one of the oldest glass companies in the country creates with this seductive medium. Gillinder Glass offers tours of its factory and production facilities.

Outdoor Fun

Once you've exercised your brain you can exercise your body. Hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy numerous trails. Bicyclists will find a variety of routes ranging from paved and dirt roads to Rails-to-Trails routes.

There are also several state parks in the region, including Archbald Pothole, Frances Slocum and Gouldsboro. Lackawanna State Park offers swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking.

Golfers can find a challenge at any one of the region's golf courses. Edgewood Pines has an 18-hole championship public course, and Cliff Park Inn and Golf Club, one of the oldest courses in the country, is in a beautifully wooded setting. The links in the northeast region offer challenges for golfers of all skill levels.
