Summer Mountain Resort Overview for Slocum in Rhode Island

Slocum
Rhode Island
Close to the Atlantic Ocean

Slocum is located in Rhode Island, directly south of Providence and directly west of Newport, two of the state's best known areas. This central location makes Slocum the perfect home base from which to tour the state.

Rhode Island is host to a variety of activities. The main attractions revolve around the state's position on the Atlantic Ocean and include boating, fishing and camping. And with all that waterfront it's easy to see why. Narragansett, Jamestown and Newport public saltwater beaches are only a short distance away for those wishing to kick back and relax in the sun.

This fishing paradise includes a great diversity of opportunities. Both saltwater and freshwater fishing can be found in the state. Whether you're looking to cast a line from the shore or a boat, or an inland river or pond, an abundance of game fish can be found in these waters. The most common catches in the sporting category are blue fish and striped bass. Offshore, several species can be found, including tuna, shark, cod and white and blue marlin.

Boaters will find endless places from which to launch. Countless marinas and yacht clubs offer a variety of services. Rental crafts and tours can be found in several spots. There are many places where water-skiing or diving are allowed as well.

Campers can enjoy the coast as well or opt for a woodsy inland setting. More than 30 state, municipal and private camping areas offer a wide variety of choice spots to set up camp.

Bicyclists will find Rhode Island very bicycle friendly. The small size of the state makes cycling feasible as a mode of transportation as well as recreation.

Riders can tour the state and take in its diverse terrain and natural beauty. Some popular rides include the East Bay Bicycle Path from Providence to Bristol (This 14.5-mile long paved trail provides access to many state parks) and the Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive on Newport (This 15-mile long trail leads past world-famous mansions and the curves of the Atlantic Ocean).
