Snowbird, located in the Wasatch Mountains, offers a variety of summer activities at and around the ski resort. Hikers and mountain bikers can take the aerial tramway to the top of Hidden Peak, an 11,000-foot summit. Once on top, many challenging trails await. All types of terrain can be found as can something to suit all endurance levels. Barrier-Free Trail is a wheelchair accessible, paved nature trail.

Rock climbers will find a wide range of experiences here as well, ranging from sport climbing to natural rock. The Cliff Lodge in Little Cottonwood Canyon is a 10-story resort hotel with sport climbing on the west face of the building. Many natural rock-climbing sites can be found within 15 minutes of Snowbird Village. Extensive routes on granite, quartzite and limestone offer unique and challenging climbs.

Snowbird also provides summer visitors with a wide variety of entertainment. The Snowbird Jazz and Blues Festival and performances by the Renowned Utah Symphony are just a sampling of what happens here.

A variety of dining and shopping choices give visitors choices ranging from elk steaks to burgers.

Twenty-five years ago, Robert Redford purchased the area of land that has become Sundance. From the beginning, he envisioned the careful growth of a community that would value the harmonious alliance of recreation, arts and a commitment to the environment. A vacation to Sundance is a retreat to a special place and community.

Most of all, every part of the area affords an overwhelming sense of the beautiful surroundings. Mount Timpanogos rises from the base of the ski trails to a summit of 12,000 feet, casting its spirit over the entire area.

From Salt Lake City, take I-15 south to the Provo exit and follow the signs for Sundance.

Brighton is located at the head of Big Cottonwood Canyon, 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. Summer visitors can ride the Mount Millicent Chairlift to the top for spectacular views of the Wasatch Mountain Range. This mountain paradise provides ample opportunities for outdoor endeavors.

Alta started out as a mining town in the 1860s. In 1865, the town had 5,000 residents after the discovery of silver. This rough and rowdy mining town claims more than 100 murders in its first few years. The 26 saloons and six breweries operating at the time probably played their part. But, in 1873 the devaluation of silver brought an end to the high times in Alta. The town remained fairly quiet until the first ski lodge was built in 1940.
