A Quaint Small Town
Jay is a quaint small town near the Canadian border. It was named after statesman John Jay and sits in the shadow of Jay Peak. Originally known for its winter sports activity, Jay offers year-round recreational opportunities.
Jay Peak State Forest is easily accessible and includes the Jay Peak Ski Resort. During the summer, the tramway carries visitors up to 4,000-foot Jay Peak. The views from the top are spectacular. Take in a panorama that includes Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Canada.
A short drive to the east is Lake Memphremagog. This 33-mile long, 350-foot deep freshwater lake has a dozen islands. Visitors can boat, swim and fish on this fiord-like body of water that extends north into Quebec. Fishing enthusiasts will find these waters harbor brown, rainbow and lake trout; landlocked salmon; pike; walleye; large and small mouth bass; and more.
