Picturesque Covered Bridges
Warren is located in the Mad River Valley region. This area encompasses Warren, Fayston and Waitsfield.
The town started up in 1789 and was named after Dr. Joseph Warren, who was Major General of the militia. Warren was the first American to be killed fighting at Bunker Hill. The town grew into an agricultural settlement in the early 1800s.
One of the defining features of the area is its' covered bridges, many of which remain and are still in use. Visitors can see one dating back to 1879 in Warren Village.
A Valley Full of Opportunities
A variety of recreational activities can be found in the picturesque valley, including fishing, canoeing, tennis, golf, horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking.
Granville Gulf State Park covers 1,200 acres of terrain between Warren and Granville. It borders the Green Mountain National Forest. One of the park's main attractions is Moss Glen Falls, which is created by the Mad River.
There are several trails in the area, including four developed by the Mad River Path Association. The Warren Path is located near brooks field off of Brook Road in Warren. The wooded path is perfect for a relaxing stroll. The Millbrook and Village paths and the Mad River Greenway are located in the other towns of the Mad River Valley.
Play at Sugarbush Golf on an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., or on one of the many other nearby golf courses. These courses offer splendid scenery along with challenging play.
Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck on any number of waterways. A favorite is fishing for bass or trout on Waterbury Reservoir.
Canoeing and kayaking are available on the Mad, White and Winooski rivers, depending on the season and on Waterbury Reservoir.
Events fill the summertime, including the Vermont Festival of the Arts, a 10-day celebration in the Mad River Valley with art, music, theater and poetry.
A wonderful variety of dining options await visitors, including some award-winning fair. Everything can be found ranging from casual to elegant to romantic to nightlife.
