Wenatchee - Chelan County
Washington
Spectacular Scenery
Wenatchee is located just west of the spectacular Columbia River. Its rich volcanic soil, along with irrigation technology, makes this area a large producer of fruit trees, especially apples.
Wenatchee National Forest is just to the north and west making this a first-rate recreation location. The forest encompasses 2,100,000 acres of land and parts of seven wilderness areas: Glacier Peak, Lake Chelan-Sawtooth, Alpine Lakes, Henry M. Jackson, Norse Peak, William O. Douglas and Goat Rocks. The 2,500 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding provide a wide variety of terrain and challenges.
Trails can be found at Wenatchee Riverfront Park too. The Apple Recreation Loop Trail is an 11-mile paved path. It is connected to the east bank of the Columbia River by bridges. Hikers, bicyclists and skaters can all enjoy this river trail.
Several lakes in the area provide many opportunities for water sports. Lake Wenatchee, 20 miles north of Leavenworth; lakes Cle Elum, Kachess and Keechelus; and Lake Chelan are just a few of the possible destinations. There are numerous streams for fishing as well.
For a look at the cultural heritage of the region stop in the North Central Washington Museum. The museum depicts American Indian and pioneer life in north-central Washington.
