Elkhorn / Lake Geneva
Wisconsin
A Musical History
Elkhorn is located in southern Wisconsin, about 45 miles southwest of Milwaukee. The town has traditionally been associated with the manufacture of band instruments and is a busy industrial town.
The popular Civil War Era composer, Joseph Philbrick Webster lived in Elkhorn. During his time here, he wrote "The Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Lorena." The Webster House Museum was originally built in 1836 as the local land office during the territorial years. The building was moved to its present site in 1840 and was the home of Joseph Webster until 1875, when he passed away. Displays include Native American, Civil War and Victorian items as well as some of Webster's memorabilia.
